Clinical study into microplasmin in the treatment of eye floaters

Professor Stalmans of the University Hospital, Leuven, has confirmed to us that he has recently received approval to conduct a clinical study to inject a limited number of floater patients scheduled for vitrectomy with microplasmin before the surgery. This will allow him to determine whether microplasmin may be benefical in the treatment of vitreous floaters.

Plasmin is an enzyme in blood responsible for dissolving blood plasma proteins, specifically, fibrin clots. Microplasmin is a truncated and stable form of this enzyme. We will report on the results and further news when we have it. References:
